Here Is The Thing

At 1:30am, I am up wondering about

Doing the right thing, an action that speaks

To strength, not weakness of women

Of color or not, but also to calm

I want to calm things down so I

Take action for that instead of fighting

With the lunatics that surround us

I want to make sure of safety and calm

Before standing ground against the crazies

Coming closer and closer and closer.

But, here’s the thing: this is what I have always done.

And they are coming. I think it is time to stand

With our arms linked and shout back.

I don’t like it, but I think so. Shout back.
