Haibun at The Crossroads
By Vivi Sojorhn
Her brow draws in too early today even as it seems no different from a week ago. She simply feels temptation arrive at her doorstep as she leaves to shop for cherries and apricots, oats and eggs. Wasn’t there more than chatting to the checkout girl? Her damaged mind reaches and finds nothing in particular other than pie baking, but just as she gives in, El Diablo, an entity of desire, reminds her that her life would be more if she made her deal, refocused, drove a different road. Putting her life in absolute chaotic control again instead of her commitment to fate. Slowing for a stop, she sees him there, a handsome man who needs a ride to the edge on this hot day. Rolling down the window, she asks where he’s headed. With her new boundaries in tact, she tells him she’s not headed that way, and continues driving straight to the fruits of her own life.

Trusting the Divine
Fate ahead, rather than the
Control we let go
