A Realm of Sacred Joy

Earth

Cinquain #22

I find

Myself thinking on oceans:

We have next to no understanding

Earth is more ocean than anything else and

Rafts and

Cruise ships

Are my big experience

My knowing runs on slow measures

Of ups and downs, sunburns, flying fish, oysters

Drifting too

Far off

Or staying at edges

Tide pools filled with stars and

Swirly urchins, that also live by edges on

Rocks wearing

Down deep

That is barely imaginable.

Lately I have imagined though that

The dark, cold places we don’t see much

Are filled

With people

We have not met

For millenniums, mer-folks that understand more

By leagues about Earth, than we dream of

Our Home

  2. Every time I boarded a boat or walked long the shore, I was astounded at how little we know of our earth-home or each other. Thank you for this poem, Vivi.

    1. I heard that somehow they are going to map the oceans this year. We all live on a yellow submarine!

  3. Also, thank you, Nolcha. I am glad when you like a poem. I tried to make the rising and fall in ideas somehow as an experiment.
